The difference between an oil immersed transformer and a dry type transformer?
1, Appearance
Different forms of packaging. Dye type transformer can directly see the core and coil, and oil immersed transformer can only see the transformer shell.
2, Capacity and Voltage
Dry type transformer is generally applicable to the distribution capacity, mostly below 1600KVA, the voltage below 10KV. There are also reach 35KV voltage level. While oil immerse transformer can be from small to large capacity. The high pressure 1000KV test line under construction in China adopt the oil immersed transformer.
3, Insulation and Heat Dissipation
Dry-type transformer general use of resin insulation , by natural cooling, large capacity is on the cooling fan. And oil immersed transformer by insulating oil, insulating oil inside the transformer by circulating radiator coil due to tropical transformer (film) on the heat.
4, Applicable Place
Dry type transformer is mostly applied in the places need to "fire proof, explosion proof". General used on large buildings. Oil immersed transformer may have oil spray or leak if there are something wrong, this could cause fire, mostly used in outdoor venues, and dig "accident oil pool" sites.
5, Different Affordability Load
Generally dry type transformer should operate under rated capacity, and oil immersed transformer overload capacity is better.
